Hands-On Innovation Symposium: Capturing Challenges

26 May 2022

The Hands-On Innovation Symposium: Capturing Challenges was held on 26 May 2022 as the second event of our three-part end user engagement series for Cybersecurity Industry Call for Innovation (CyberCall) 2022. Organised jointly by ICE71 and TNB Ventures, we held a cozy session at the ICE71 office where we were joined by 15 cyber leaders from a diverse range of industries.

Open Innovation Sharing by Hugh Mason

We started off with a sharing by Hugh Mason, NUS Entrepreneur-in-Residence and co-founder of JFDI, Southeast Asia’s first startup accelerator. Hugh introduced participants to the concept of open innovation and provided various insights into how to drive innovation processes. This included the importance of having stakeholders come together to pinpoint shared problems, thus allowing them to paint a “big picture” and enable solutions to come to light more easily.

The sharing also introduced the three main discussion topics for the event:

  • Ringfencing of insider threats
  • Supply chain security
  • Tools for hybrid cloud

These topics were chosen as they were found to have been recurring pain points brought up during the first event, Cyber Leaders Sharing Session: Future-Proofing Your Organisation.

Facilitated Discussions

Following Hugh’s sharing, participants split into two groups for discussion sessions. Ashish Thapar, Vice President and Head of Security Consulting at NTT Limited, and Emil Tan, Chief Operating Officer at Red Alpha Cybersecurity expertly facilitated these candid sharing sessions, allowing participants to open up about their thoughts on the current cybersecurity scene, as well as some challenges they have been facing within their own organisations.

Back in the main room, Ashish and Emil shared the discussion highlights from their respective group discussions, allowing participants to gain further insight from their industry peers.

Sharing on CyberCall 2022

The final sharing of the afternoon was by Linda Nguyen Schindler, Programmes Head at ICE71. She provided an overview of the CyberCall programme and spoke about the upcoming 2022 CyberCall cycle.

The event concluded with participants lingering around to network while enjoying a late afternoon snack of tarts and hot drinks.
